General Information

All foreign nationals, including children must have a passport and a visa to enter India. It is not sufficient that a child is registered in the passport of one of its parents. Visa cannot be obtained on arrival in India.

In accordance with the rules and regulations of the Government of India, the Embassy grants visa, on application, to those intending to visit India for tourist, business and other purposes.

Visa application forms can be obtained free of charge from the Embassy. You can also download the Visa Form (PDF) (html) from  this website.

Applicable Visa fees, one recent passport size photographs and the passport - valid for at least four months beyond the applied visa period - should accompany the application.

Visa can be applied for in person or by post at the Embassy of India, Copenhagen. Visa applications from persons residing in Denmark but holding Foreign Passport takes longer.

Visa Fees are non-refundable and subject to change.

The Embassy normally requires 2-3 working days to issue Tourist and Business Visas to Danish nationals, and about one week for others. For Danish passport holders originating from certain foreign countries, it takes more time. Applicants are therefore advised to apply for the Visa well in time.

NOTE: The Embassy of India, Copenhagen would accept applications of only those who are resident in Denmark.

Please do not finalize your travel arrangements to India before obtaining the requisite visa.

Visitors to restricted/protected areas need special permits and for this purpose an additional form has to be completed. Please contact the Embassy if you wish to ascertain whether any of the places you intend to visit fall in the category of restricted/protected areas. Application for the permit, for which an additional fee is levied,  has to be submitted in the prescribed form with the required fee along with the visa application.

The validity of all types of visa starts from the date of issue.

The Embassy reserves the right to refuse visa without assigning any reasons.

Foreign nationals (other than US nationals holding 10 year tourist/business visas) holding visa for a period of more than 180 days are required to get themselves registered with the concerned Foreigner's Regional Registration Office (FRRO) within 14 days of their first arrival in India.

A penal fee of US$ 30.00, over and above the visa fees, will be charged by the concerned FRRO, in case of non-registration on time and for overstay in India beyond the validity of visa.
