A visa issued by a Schengen country permits free travel across the borders within the Schengen States if not stated otherwise in the visa.  The Schengen countries include: Austria , Denmark Finland, France , Germany , Greece , Italy , Luxembourg , the Netherlands , Portugal , Spain and Sweden .  Though not being members of the EU Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein have joined the Schengen co-operation in the EEA (European Economic Area).  Please note that United Kingdom and Ireland who are EU Member States have not joined the Schengen cooperation.

The maximum duration for a visa is 90 days every six months, with one or multiple entries.  The Embassy of the country of your main destination should issue your visa.  If you visit more than one Schengen country and the main destination cannot be determined the Embassy of the country of first entry should issue the visa

Clarification on Business Visa:

For persons who frequently travel on business to one or several Schengen States, short-term visas with multiple entries may be issued for several visits provided that the total length of these visits does not exceed three months in any half-year.  The 90 days visa with multiple entries can however be issued for one year and not only 6 months.  If further 90 days visa is needed the person will have to return to India in order to apply again.  The applicant cannot apply again for another visa of 90 days until 3 months after the date of return to India .  The total number of days in a one-year period cannot exceed 2 x 90 days.

For issuing a business visa the following documentation is required:

  • Original letter of invitation from the business partner in the Schengen country, stating the purpose, the dates and the duration of the visit
  • Official introduction letter from the Indian company or organization by whom the business-man is employed (including the address, telephone, fax, employment position, purpose of trip) and copy of the company’s business license.
  • Financial status
  • Return Air Ticket
  • Health Insurance

However, further documentation may be requested based on the individual case.
